Forfar Celebrates Young Writers Across Its International Schools

A cross-school competition showcasing creativity, collaboration and global connection

Forfar Education has celebrated the creativity and imagination of its pupils with its new Forfar Education writing competition, bringing together young authors from across its international family of schools.

Inspiring Creativity Across Borders

Open to pupils in Years 5 and 6, and Years 7 and 8, the Forfar Education writing competition invited pupils to respond to imaginative prompts designed to spark originality. Younger entrants were challenged to begin their stories with the line, “Peeping through the portal, I saw the most extraordinary sight…”, or to write from a visual prompt featuring an iceberg, a tent, and a lone rower.

Meanwhile, Years 7 and 8 pupils crafted stories incorporating the dialogue, “You surprised me.” “I surprised myself.”, or responded to a surreal image of three people travelling in a banana-shaped car.

A Shared Experience Across an International Network

The competition highlighted not only individual talent, but also the power of collaboration and shared creativity across Forfar’s international schools. Pupils from the UK and across Europe took part, united by a love of storytelling and the opportunity to engage in a shared challenge.

Celebrating Outstanding Young Writers

Winners in Years 5 and 6 included Claudia (Brackenfield School), Ari (Park School), Mary (Springmead), and Eden (Cameron Vale School). In Years 7 and 8, winners included Mila Brown (The English International College) and a student from the British College of Andorra.

Reflecting on his entry, Ari said: “I had visited the arcade with my best friend the day before and that inspired me… I liked the challenge of trying to include the line.” Claudia added that her story was inspired by mythical creatures and her early love of storytelling, while Eden shared: “I really enjoyed writing it because it was fun to let my imagination run free.”

Judging and Recognition

Mrs. Helen Wilkinson, Head of Horris Hill School and competition judge, praised the entries: “The quality and imagination on display across all schools was exceptional. It was inspiring to see how pupils from different countries and backgrounds responded so creatively to the same prompts, truly reflecting the strength of our international community.”

The competition stands as a celebration of creativity, connection, and the shared opportunities that come from being part of the Forfar Education family, bringing pupils together across borders and encouraging the next generation of writers.
